Tata Power’s Acquisition of Jejuri Hinjewadi Power Transmission Analyzed
Tata Power is planning to take control of a major electricity project called Jejuri Hinjewadi Power Transmission. This project, developed by REC Power Development and Consultancy (a part of REC), will operate for 35 years. It involves building new power lines and upgrading existing equipment to ensure a reliable electricity supply.
- Tata Power secures LOI for Jejuri Hinjewadi acquisition.
- REC subsidiary develops the project under a 35-year contract.
- Construction involves 115 km of 400 kV power lines.
- Operational costs will reach Rs 155.78 crore annually.
- Build-Own-Operate Transfer model ensures long-term operation.
- Project focuses on transmission services for improved energy grid.
The project itself involves building around 115 kilometers of power lines. These lines will connect Jejuri and Hinjewadi, crucial areas for electricity distribution. Construction also includes expanding the capacity of existing substations with new 400 kV GIS line bays.
This “Build-Own-Operate Transfer” model means Tata Power will own and run the project for 35 years. During this time, they’ll collect transmission charges – currently estimated at Rs 155.78 crore each year. This stable revenue stream is a key factor in the acquisition.
The project’s official start date, called the Scheduled Commercial Operation Date (SCOD), is set 24 months after the transfer of ownership to Tata Power. The focus is on delivering reliable power transmission services and boosting the overall electricity grid’s efficiency.
This acquisition represents a strategic investment for Tata Power, enhancing its transmission capabilities and grid infrastructure.
