The main goal is to make sure we have enough graphite to build lots of batteries for electric cars. Currently, the demand for graphite is skyrocketing. This partnership wants to make things better – by turning used batteries back into usable materials.

Rain Carbon’s special process, called LIONCOAT, helps make the graphite stronger and better for use in batteries. Green Graphite Technologies adds another layer of cleaning with its GraphPure and GraphRenew technologies. The work will happen at Rain Carbon’s facility in Hamilton, Ontario. They’ll use a special “demo plant” to test and create small batches of the new graphite. Green Graphite Technologies will also use its own facilities in Kingston and Montreal to help clean the graphite.

Looking ahead, the project could create two new graphite products by 2030. These products will be made using methods that cut down on waste and energy use. This is a smart way to build a battery supply chain that’s good for the environment and creates new jobs.
