Swan Defence and Heavy Industries (SDHI) has made a big announcement: they’ve secured a contract to build six chemical tankers. These ships will be built in India by SDHI and will be delivered to a company called Rederiet Stenersen AS, based in Europe. Ship Details

Each of the six tankers will be quite large, measuring around 150 metres long and 23 metres wide. They’ll be designed by two well-known design companies: Marinform AS and StoGda Ship Design & Engineering. Importantly, these ships will be built to a high standard, classified by DNV, guaranteeing safety and quality.

A key feature of these tankers is their ability to use liquefied natural gas (LNG). They’re designed to be “dual-fuel LNG ready,” meaning they can run on LNG or other fuels. This makes them more efficient and environmentally friendly, and they’ll also have a high level of automation to help operate them.

There’s also an option for Rederiet Stenersen AS to order six more identical ships in the future. The first tanker is expected to be finished within 33 months, and the rest will be built at regular intervals. This shows SDHI’s growing confidence in its shipbuilding capabilities.
