Indian Oil’s Abu Dhabi Discovery Analyzed
Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) and Bharat PetroResources have made a big discovery in Abu Dhabi! They’re working together through a company called Urja Bharat (UBPL) to explore for oil in a specific area called Onshore Block 1. This discovery is exciting because it means they might find a lot more oil in the future.
Key Points
- IOCL & Bharat PetroResources partner through UBPL in Abu Dhabi.
- UBPL found oil in the Shilaif play in 2024.
- Hydrofracking revealed light crude flowing at the surface.
- Shilaif formation confirms unconventional oil resource potential.
- Habshan reservoir discovery marks first oil find in the area.
- Future appraisal phase aims at economic well deliverability.
The Shilaif Discovery
In early 2024, UBPL found oil in a well called XN-76. They used a technique called hydrofracking to help the oil flow out. The oil was light and flowed easily to the surface.
This discovery means there’s a lot of oil hidden underground in the Shilaif formation. UBPL is now planning to learn more about how much oil there is and how easy it will be to get it out.
The Habshan Discovery
Not long after, UBPL also found oil in a different well, XN 79 02S. This well was part of the Habshan reservoir, an area they hadn’t explored before. This was the very first time oil was found in this part of the concession!
The discovery in the Habshan reservoir is incredibly promising and suggests even greater potential exists within Onshore Block 1.
What’s Next?
Both IOCL and Bharat PetroResources are really happy with these results. They plan to continue studying the oil and working on ways to bring it to the surface.
They’re also working on developing the Ruwais field and looking for other places where they might find more oil. This is a major step towards a significant energy future.
This discovery proves strategic investments in international ventures can yield transformative outcomes.
