Indian Auto Retail Performance Analyzed

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) recently shared important information about how many cars and motorcycles were sold in India during November 2025. Surprisingly, sales were much stronger than expected, even though many people buy vehicles after big festivals like Diwali. This is a key thing to understand for businesses and investors.

Key Points

  • November 2025 auto sales grew 2.14% year-on-year.
  • Two-wheelers saw a slight decrease of 3.1% YoY.
  • Passenger vehicles jumped 19.7% YoY, boosted by recent taxes.
  • Inventory levels dropped significantly, indicating strong demand.
  • Commercial vehicles increased by 19.94% YoY for key reasons.
  • Overall, customer confidence remains high in the market.

Breakdown of Sales

Two-Wheelers

Sales of motorcycles and scooters went down a little bit, by 3.1% compared to last year. This isn’t a huge surprise, as sales often slow down after celebrations. It is still a positive overall picture.

Passenger Vehicles (PVs)

Passenger vehicles – like cars and SUVs – had a really good month, growing by 19.7%. This was largely thanks to changes in taxes (called GST) that made cars cheaper. Plus, people were buying them for weddings and other special occasions.

Commercial Vehicles (CVs)

Trucks and buses also saw a big increase in sales – 19.94% – because of some new roads being built, more goods being transported, and more people traveling. However, not all parts of the country are seeing the same level of growth.

Inventory Levels

A really important detail is that the amount of cars and trucks sitting in lots (called inventory) went down to just 44-46 days. This means that people were buying vehicles quickly, and manufacturers weren’t holding onto too many unsold cars. This shows a healthy balance between supply and demand.

“Strong auto retail numbers indicate sustained consumer demand and a resilient Indian market.”
