India’s Inflation Numbers Analyzed
India’s prices for everyday goods – what we pay for things like food and housing – are cooling down. In September, the overall price increase was just 1.54%, which is the lowest it’s been in over eight years. This means things aren’t getting more expensive as quickly.

Food prices were a big factor. Vegetables saw a big drop – about 21% less expensive than last year. This was especially true in rural areas, where food inflation was -2.17% compared to -0.70% in August 2025. The cost of housing, education, health, transport, and fuel also changed slightly.
Specifically, housing prices rose by 3.98% in September 2025, up from 3.09% in August 2025. Education and health inflation remained around 3.44% and 4.34% respectively. Transport & Communication costs increased by 1.82%, and Fuel & Light prices rose by 1.98%.
These latest inflation figures indicate a strengthening economic environment in India.
