Tata Power’s Solar Growth Analyzed

Tata Power’s solar business, TP Solar, is growing really fast! In the last three months (Q3 FY26), they made a huge jump in solar cell and module production. They created 940 MW of solar cells, which is almost five times more than the 196 MW they made last year. This shows how quickly the company is expanding its solar capabilities.

Key Points

  • TP Solar produced 940 MW of solar cells in Q3 FY26.
  • Module production rose 7% year-on-year to 990 MW.
  • Total solar manufacturing: 2.8 GW of cells and 2.9 GW modules.
  • 2.4 GW of DCR modules, 0.5 GW of ALMM modules created.
  • TP Solar operates a massive 4.3 GW facility in Tamil Nadu.
  • Tata Power aims for 100% renewable electricity generation by 2025.

Over the last few months (from April 2025 to December 2025), TP Solar made a total of 2.8 gigawatts (GW) of solar cells and 2.9 GW of solar modules. A gigawatt is a huge amount – think of it as enough power for almost 200,000 homes!

Specifically, 2.4 GW of these modules were “DCR” modules and the remaining 0.5 GW were “ALMM” modules. DCR and ALMM are special types of solar panels used in India. TP Solar has a huge factory in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, where they make all of this.

TP Solar is part of Tata Power Renewable Energy, which itself belongs to Tata Power, a company that already makes a lot of electricity. Tata Power wants to use only renewable energy sources like solar and wind to power India. They’re also building many electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

Recently, Tata Power’s profits dipped a little, but their solar business is still growing strongly. The company’s stock price went down slightly, but it’s still a leading power company in India.

Ultimately, Tata Power’s investment in solar energy represents a crucial step towards a sustainable and electrified future for India.
