National Gas Grid Expansion in India Analyzed

India’s national gas grid is growing rapidly thanks to a major government push. The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas wants to get natural gas to more people and businesses across the country. This expansion is being managed by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).

The PNGRB is the key player in this project. They decide which companies can build and operate new gas pipelines. As of June 2025, around 25,429 kilometers of these pipelines were already working.

A further 10,459 kilometers are currently being built, meaning that the government’s ‘One Nation, One Gas Grid’ plan is moving forward quickly. This expansion isn’t just about having more gas; it’s about making sure gas is available in places where it’s needed most.

Specifically, in industrial areas, a steady supply of gas at good prices helps factories run efficiently. This also encourages new businesses to move to those areas and lowers the costs for companies already there.
